ITALIAN NORMAL WAY CERVINO LYON RIDGE

Matterhorn Italian Normal Route4300 m. The Matterhorn, a majestic peak in the Alps, embodies the essence of mountaineering and attracts mountaineers from all over the world. Two of the most iconic routes to reach the summit are the Via Normale Italiana on the Cresta del Leone and the Via Normale Svizzera on the Cresta dell'Hornli. In this article, we will explore both climbs and their fascinating itineraries.
The Via Normale Italiana on the Cresta del Leone, 4810 meters long, is renowned for its beauty and romance. It was first traveled by J.A. Carrel in 1865 along the long ridge that leads to the summit of the Matterhorn. This fascinating route offers an authentic mountaineering experience, far from modern technology, requiring an impressive physical performance. The second day begins with the "alarm clock rope" challenge, overcoming stages such as the Mauvais Pas, the Corda Thindal Enjambèe and the Jordan staircase. Climbing at these altitudes requires great physical resistance, but when we reach the Cima Italiana at 4478 meters, we will have the world in our hands. After a quick return along the ascent route, we will pass through the Carrell hut and return to Cervinia.

MATTERHORN HORNLI RIDGE

The Swiss Normal Route on the Hornli Ridge is considered easier than the Italian route, but offers an equally exciting experience. Starting from the Hornli Hutte refuge at 3260 metres, the route develops up to the Cima Svizzera at 4478 meters across a thin ridge.

Programma del Tour

1° Day

The first day includes meeting in Zermatt and taking the cable car up to Swarzsee at 2583 metres. From there, we head to the Hornli Hutte refuge at 3280 metres, overcoming a height difference of 700 meters in around 2 hours.
the not too high altitude allows you to rest and acclimatise for the following day.

2° Day

The second day begins at 4 in the morning, tackling the first climb on fixed ropes and crossing various challenging sections up to the Solvay bivouac. Continuing, we will face 300 extremely challenging meters, with mixed terrain and fixed ropes, until we reach the change in slope that will finally take us to the crest of the Matterhorn. Upon returning to the Hornli Hutte, we can celebrate our success with a beer, hoping to be in time for the last ride to Zermatt. This adventure on the Via Normale Switzerland to the Matterhorn promises unforgettable emotions.
